'Silver Grey City' is a new song of mine, written for the Charity Compilation album 'And In the End'. 81 artists have donated tracks to this Bandcamp album ~ a Fundraiser for the U.K. Charity Help Musicians.
I wrote 'Silver Grey City' in December 2020 inspired by an imaginary city, locked down and silently holding its inhabitants. I haven't been into London for over a year now, so I was conjuring the elements of it that I miss - the grey misty air, the time-scarred buildings and the cold river, wide and silver. I was thinking of all the incredible acts of courage, compassion and resilience happening during lockdown and of a city itself becoming a kind of stoic watcher and holder of events unfolding:
Silver Grey City
Looking at you
Hazy
And softly taking it all in
Eyes like light
Encountering this curious quiet
We’re not asleep
It’s just this city
Holding us in its old and scarred and silver arms
We’re not alone
In this great city
We’re in each others open arms
In its silver grey light
Looking at you
Seeing this through
Wondering how
You got this love
How you carry it daily
And how you amaze me
As the river runs through cold and grey
I see your face like the light of day
(Carrying all the lonely love)
We’re not asleep
It’s just this city
Holding us in its old and scarred and silver arms
We’re not alone
In this great city
We’re in each others open arms
In its cold and silver light

Help Musicians is an independent UK charity 'for professional musicians of all genres, from starting out through to retirement. They help at times of crisis, but also at times of opportunity, giving people the extra support they need at a crucial stage.' All sales of the tracks/album (after bandcamp/paypal fees) will go to the charity. The album was organised by Simon Tucker in response to the extremely difficult situation many musicians find themselves in due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Sounding magnificent - and for a very good cause!
